WHY NOT WOMEN?







Noted art historian Barbara Tomlinson of Princeton, New Jersey will present a lecture entitled “Why Not Women?” at the Clarence Dillon Public Library on Sunday, October 26, 2014 at 2:00 pm.  With her customary insight, engaging anecdote, and cultural perspective, she looks at extraordinary female artists who blossomed following the late 19th century “door opening” to women in the arts. 

The lecture will take place in the downstairs meeting rooms of the library.  Admission is $5.00 which is payable at the door.  Registration is recommended but not required.   Please register by calling the library at 908-234-2325 or by email ref@dillonlibrary.org or in person at the circulation desk.

PIANIST MISUZU TANAKA











Pianist Misuzu Tanaka will perform a program of works by Bach, Haydn, Chopin, and Schumann at the Clarence Dillon Public Library on Sunday, October 5, 2014.  The recital will begin at 2:00 pm.  Ms. Tanaka studied piano at the Julliard School with Martin Canin and chamber music with Jacob Lateiner, Seymour Lipkin, and Robert Mann.  She holds a Masters in Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees from the University of Michigan.  She has performed at Lincoln Center, Washington’s Kennedy Center, and across Europe and Japan.   She has established herself as an artist of remarkable individuality with a rare combination of poetic sensitivity and breathtaking virtuosity.

THOMAS EDISON: INVENTOR, LECTURER & PRANKSTER







Patrick Garner as “Mr. Edison” will be at the Clarence Dillon Public Library on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at 7:00 pm for a fun-filled presentation about his life, his inventions and the lessons those inventions taught him! Children volunteer to join the “The Wizard of Menlo Park” onstage to act as his “Insomnia Squad.” All children are involved in this highly interactive presentation. Come meet the man with 1093 US Patents including the Phonograph, the Light Bulb, the Motion Picture Projector, the Universal Stock Ticker, the Alkaline Battery, Talking Dolls, Improved Cement Manufacturing, Electric Generators, the Electric Train, the Tattoo Pen,  and Wax Paper.

The program will be held in the downstairs meeting rooms of the library and is for school age children and their parents.  The program is free but registration is requested.  Please register by calling the library at 908-234-2325 ext. 107, in person in the Children’s Library, or by email at ref@dillonlibrary.org. CHILDREN'S SATURDAY SUMMER FUN










The Clarence Dillon Public Library will be the place for a morning of fun activities for children and their families on Saturday, August 16, 2014 from 10 – 11:30 am.  The activities will include face painting, puppets, balloon art, music, and magic.  Refreshments are provided.  The program is free and registration is requested but not required.  To register call the Children’s Department at the library at 908-234-2325 ext. 107 or email ref@dillonlibrary.org.  Please contact Helen Petersen, Children’s Librarian, with any questions.
