SAVING MONEY WITH MEDICARE







Author and consumer advocate Katherine Hermes of Peapack, New Jersey will present “Saving Money with Medicare” at the Clarence Dillon Public Library on Friday, January 13, 2017.  The program will begin at noon and be held in the library cafĂ©.  Hermes will offer help reducing healthcare costs via Medicare, untangling the many complexities that confuse and limit those of us using Medicare wholly or in part, as well as those planning for it in the near future.

RARE BOOKS LECTURE






James Cummins of Oldwick, New Jersey will present a program on the rarified world of rare books at the Clarence Dillon Public Library on Sunday, December 11, 2016 at 2pm.  As the founder of one of this profession’s most elite firms, James Cummins Bookseller, he will provide an insider’s intriguing perspective.  A lifelong collector, he started James Cummins Bookseller in 1978 after running the rare book department at Brentano's. He is a prominent and well respected figure in the antiquarian book world and a fixture at auctions.

SCHUMANN LECTURE AND CONCERT









Composer Robert Schumann’s passionately romantic life and music will be presented at the Clarence Dillon Public Library on Sunday, November 13, 2016 at 2:00 pm.  Sandy Putnam will examine Schumann’s life with his customary anecdotes and recorded excerpts.  Robert Schumann was a German composer who is widely regarded as one of the greatest composers of the Romantic era.  The lecture will be followed by a concert of Schumann’s music by young piano virtuoso Kevin Zhong.  He is a resident of Basking Ridge, New Jersey and currently attends Delbarton School and has been playing the piano for ten years.

WITHER CHINA WITH GORDON CHANG







China author, columnist, and television commentator Gordon Chang will speak at the Clarence Dillon Public Library on Sunday, October 16, 2016 at 2:00 pm.  He will offer an insightful perspective on where China is headed and its influence on the world.  

Gordon Chang is the author of Nuclear Showdown: North Korea Takes on the World, released by Random House in January 2006.  Showdown focuses on nuclear proliferation in general and the North Korean crisis in particular.  His first book is The Coming Collapse of China (Random House, August 2001). He is a contributor at Forbes.com and blogs at World Affairs Journal and a resident of Bedminster, New Jersey.

 His writings on China and North Korea have appeared in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, the Far Eastern Economic Review, the International Herald Tribune, Commentary, The Weekly Standard, National Review, and Barron's.   

He has spoken at Columbia, Cornell, Harvard, Penn, Princeton, Yale, and other universities and at The Brookings Institution, The Heritage Foundation, the Cato Institute, RAND, the American Enterprise Institute, the Council on Foreign Relations, and other institutions.  He has given briefings at the National Intelligence Council, the Central Intelligence Agency, the State Department, and the Pentagon.  He has also spoken before industry and investor groups including Bloomberg, Sanford Bernstein, Royal Bank of Scotland, and Credit Lyonnais Securities Asia.  Chang has appeared before the House Committee on Foreign Affairs and the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission. He has appeared on CNN, Fox News Channel, Fox Business Network, CNBC, MSNBC, PBS, the BBC, and Bloomberg Television.

ALEXANDER HAMILTON LECTURE







Alexander Hamilton, one of our most exciting Founding Fathers, is the subject of a lecture at the Clarence Dillon Public Library on Sunday, October 2, 2016 at 2:00 pm.  Perry Leavell, a former professor of history at Drew University and a very popular speaker, will present an engaging and scholarly talk on the man who was the first Secretary of the Treasury and a chief aide to George Washington during the Revolutionary War and much more.  Hamilton has been the subject of numerous books and a Tony award winning musical.
