FIZZ, BOOM, READ! FAMILY MAGIC SHOW









The Clarence Dillon Public Library will present the Fizz, Boom, Read! Family Magic Show on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at 10:30 am.  Magician and family entertainer Steve Woyce will present a show packed with magic, science, and tons of fun. Steve will be joined by Jules, a silly science puppet and lots of audience participation.  Come and watch Steve magically make electricity appear and disappear! The Magic Show is the kick off for the Library’s Summer Reading Club which runs from June 23 – August 26, 2014 and is sponsored by The Friends of the Clarence Dillon Public Library.  
 
The program will be held in the downstairs meeting rooms of the library and is appropriate for all ages.  Registration is recommended but not required. MYSTERY MOVIE MONTH






Join us on Tuesday nights in June for classic mystery movies.  The screenings begin at 6:45 pm and are held in the downstairs meeting rooms.  No registration is needed!

Peter Lorre and Sydney Greenstreet team up to solve the murder of a career criminal in this atmospheric film noir.  Based on the novel by Eric Ambler, this thriller also features Zachery Scott and Faye Emerson.

Deanna Durbin offers her fans a change of pace in this mystery seasoned with comedy and music.  She is a small-town girl in the big city who witnesses a crime but no one believes her.  This is a very entertaining film which also features Ralph Bellamy, David Bruce, and Edward Everett Horton.

Van Johnson is a blind American playwright living in London  who overhears a kidnapping plot and attempts to prevent it with the help of his ex-fiancee and his butler.  This clever thriller also stars Vera Miles and was directed by Henry Hathaway.

Warmer Oland is back as the legendary detective who investigates a murder at an opera house that is haunted by a madman played by Boris Karloff. This film is considered one of the best Charlie Chan films with a stellar cast and loaded with drama and mystery.  Lots of fun!

CHILDREN'S GARDEN ACTIVITIES











The Clarence Dillon Public Library is hosting a series of fun activities for children of all ages in the Children’s Garden.  There will be puppets, balloon art, magic, music and/or face painting on four Saturdays: May 24, June 21, July 19, and August 16.  The programs begin at 10:00 am and refreshments will be provided.  Please register by calling the Children’s Department at the library at 908-234-2325 ext. 107 or by email at ref@dillonlibrary.org.  Please contact Helen Petersen, Children’s Librarian, with any questions.

BONK! DRUM PROGRAM FOR KIDS












BONK! Expressive Drum and Percussion Workshop for kids will be held at the Clarence Dillon Public Library on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at 1:00 pm.  Kids 4-10 have fun 'EXPRESSING' themselves with this 1 hour interactive program as they are introduced to interesting drums and percussive instruments from around the world. The kids will learn basic hand drum and percussion techniques, 'talk' to one another using drums and make their own rhythms as they sharpen their listening skills and learn about musical dynamics. Using some exotic instruments, the group will even create the sounds of their own rainforest.

FIRST LADIES ACCORDING TO MARTHA WASHINGTON









First Ladies According to Martha Washington will be presented at the Clarence Dillon Public Library on Sunday, March 23, 2014 at 2:00 pm. The lively, humorous, and multitalented Maggie Worsdale becomes our inquisitive First Lady.  She draws the audience into her personal experience during the Revolutionary War and her husband’s presidency and then into a fun jaunt through the history and stories of other First Ladies.

FRANK SINATRA & JUDY GARLAND - A MUSICAL ROMANCE






Frank Sinatra and July Garland – A Musical Romance will be performed at the Clarence Dillon Public Library on Sunday, February 9, 2014 at 2:00 pm.  Sinatra and Garland’s timeless classics from the American songbook will be performed by Francine Evans and Joel Zelnick. This duo, competitors in “America’s Got Talent.” has sung off-Broadway, at the White House, and in every major U.S. nightclub.  They mix fascinating nostalgia and trivia into their performance.

NUTCRACKER SUITE








The Clarence Dillon Public Library will screen the film “The Nutcracker ” on Sunday, December 15, 2013 at 2:00 pm.  The film stars Mikhail Baryshnikov and Gelsey Kirkland in Peter Tchaikovsky’s beloved holiday classic of a young girl’s dream on Christmas Eve. Considered by many to be the best-filmed version, it features spectacular sets and costumes and remarkable performances with the music performed by The National Philharmonic.
