GREATEST MUSIC MOMENTS LECTURE SERIES





Sandy Putnam will present a two-part lecture series on the Greatest Music Moments at the Clarence Dillon Public Library.  The first program on Sunday, November 10, 2013 will feature some of the most sublime music pieces from Haydn, Mendelssohn, early 1960’s American folk music, and Frank Sinatra.  The second program on Sunday, November 17, 2013 will include selections ranging from Rachmaninoff, Broadway, and Elvis.  Both programs begin at 2:00 pm.

PATERSON GREAT FALLS NATIONAL PARK





Leonard Zax, a lawyer and city planner with more than thirty years of experience in community development and historic preservation, will present a program  on the history of Paterson, New Jersey and its national park on Sunday, October 27, 2013.   An engaging speaker, he will cover the colorful rise, decline, and current rejuvenation of our nation’s first industrial city.  The program will begin at 2:00 pm.

GEORGE WASHINGTON







Professor Perry Leavell  will lecture on the life of George Washington on Sunday, October 20, 2013 at the Clarence Dillon Public Library.  The program will begin at 2:00 pm.  Percy Leavell, retired from Drew University, will bring his customary insight, wit, and charm to profile America’s iconic Founding Father.

IMMORTAL ITALIAN LOVE SONGS





The Capitol Heights Lyric Opera Ensemble of New York City will present a program of Italian love songs at the Clarence Dillon Public Library on Sunday, October 6, 2013.  The program will begin at 2:00 pm.  Great opera arias of Verdi and Puccini as well as Neapolitan ballads will be performed by three members of the Ensemble.

THE BOYS OF SUMMER







The incomparable story of the 1950’s Brooklyn Dodgers will be brought to life in a lecture by Professor James Kane at the Clarence Dillon Public Library on Sunday, September 29, 2013.  More than a baseball tale, this story follows their love affair with their fans, the rivalry with the New York Yankees, and the afterlives of their great stars.  The program will begin at 2:00 pm.

EBOOKS CLASSES






The Clarence Dillon Public Library is offering classes on accessing free ebooks from the library.  The class will demonstrate how to search for titles, checkout, and download them onto a tablet, ereader, or smartphone.  The classes will be held on Saturday, Sept 14, 2013 from 10:30 am – 12:00 pm and on Wednesday, September 18, 2013 from 11:00 am – 12:30 pm.  One-on-One assistance with ebooks is always available from the reference librarians during library hours.

INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL



 Join us on Tuesday evenings during July and August for screenings of some of the best current and classic foreign language films.  All screenings begin at 6:45 pm and  contain English subtitles.  Refreshments are provided.
